Kim Brooks was born in Portland, OR and graduated from high school in Coatesville, PA. Former U.S. Marine Sergeant who is a Koyukon Athabacan, Caribou Clan Alaskan Native and currently is a US Marine Corps Civilian, Training and Education Command, G-6 Operations Deputy Branch Head. Brooks joined the Marine Corps in 1988, enlisting as a Communications Center Operator. Her first duty assignment was at Headquarters Marine Corps. During the Persian Gulf War, Brooks served on the Emergency Reaction Team where she assisted in putting together the case files of Marines who were wounded or killed in action. Her next assignment was at Camp Butler in Okinawa, Japan. From there Brooks returned to the U.S. and transitioned into the Marine Forces Reserve and served with the 4th Combat Engineers. She returned to Headquarters Marine Corps and in 2001 was honorably discharged. She has been a Department of Defense contractor since leaving the Corps and has worked at Fort Detrick, MD, where she tested components of the Defense Messaging System, at the Pentagon Telecommunications Center, where she served as a Certified Authority, and at the Marine Corps Training and Education Command in Quantico, VA. Kim Brooks and her ex-husband, also a Marine, are the proud parents of a son currently serving on active duty as an Airframe Mechanic on the F-35 fighter aircraft in the U.S. Marine Corps.
